Aesthetics and Eyelid Surgery

Aesthetic eyelid surgeries are most commonly performed for conditions such as drooping eyelids, puffy bags under the eyes, or eyelid malpositions. The primary objectives of such procedures are to restore any impaired tear film function and to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes.

Eyelid Surgeries

Your eyes tell a story. The beautiful features in and around the eye are very expressive and deserve to be shown in their best light. As we age, our eyes and the skin above and below them also age. This can lead to excess skin, which can make you look tired or older than your age. As the changes progress, the field of vision of the eye also narrows. We would be happy to discuss with you the options for correcting these changes. With an eyelid lift (or blepharoplasty), aged, excess skin can be removed from the eyelids. In this procedure, a small incision is made in the natural crease of the eyelid. Then, the excess skin and fat are removed. We specialize in the correction of eyelid changes and support you in achieving a fresher, more awake appearance through an eyelid lift.

Eyelid malpositions
(Ectropium and Entropium)

Entropion and ectropion are eyelid conditions that can cause severe discomfort and damage to your eyes. When your eyelids turn inward or outward, it can lead to inflammation of the surface of your eye and extreme pain. Our experienced eye surgeons specialize in eyelid surgeries to alleviate these symptoms.
At our centers in Regensburg and Straubing, we can promptly treat entropion or ectropion problems, which are often caused by age-related changes or injuries to the eyelids.

“Entropion is a condition of the lower eyelid where the eyelid turns inward towards the surface of the eye, causing the eyelashes and eyelid to rub against the eye. The most common complications of this condition include a stinging sensation in the eye and eyelid, moderate to severe tearing, and chronically red eyes. Left untreated, entropion can lead to irreversible damage to the cornea.

Ectropium is a condition where the lower eyelid turns outward, exposing too much of the eyeball and the delicate tissue inside the lid. Symptoms of ectropium include persistent burning of the eye, excessive tearing, and redness of the eye.

Other Eyelid Malpositions

A variety of surgical techniques is available for the aesthetic correction of the eyelids. The specific technique used for an individual patient can only be determined during a personal consultation in the practice. During this consultation, the eyelids and the entire area around the eyes (periorbital region) are carefully examined. In addition to aesthetics, the highly individual anatomy and function of the eyelids are also assessed.
The latter is particularly important because any eyelid surgery must always take into account the function of the eyelids. In some cases, impaired eyelid function is the primary reason for the surgery.
