Strabismus Surgery

Strabismus is a condition where the eyes are permanently or intermittently misaligned, meaning that the left and right eyes do not point in the same direction.

More than just a cosmetic procedure

The goal of any strabismus surgery is to change the position of the eyeball so that double vision no longer occurs and the cosmetic problem of misaligned eyes is eliminated. We achieve this by making adjustments to the external eye muscles during the strabismus surgery.

Strabismus surgery at any age

Strabismus surgery is not only beneficial for children. We also perform surgical correction of strabismus in adults. Here, it is not just about the cosmetic aspect but also about preventing double vision. Children quickly suppress the image from the deviating eye, so they rarely perceive double vision. As a result, a visual impairment (amblyopia) develops that can last a lifetime. In adults who have developed full visual acuity with both eyes, a sudden paralytic strabismus, for example, leads to the perception of double images. If these cannot be corrected with prism glasses, surgery may be the right choice.

In strabismus surgery, the eye muscles, which attach to the back of the eye like reins, are altered in length or at their attachment point to the eye, thereby correcting these misalignments.
